Expect an exciting, unpredictable and entertaining spectacle, as you watch the world’s best players and international teams competing with the World Cup crown on the line.
Hosts England battle it out with 15 top nations in their bid to be crowned world champions for the first time, in front of a roaring home crowd at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park venue. England are looking to emulate their success at the 2015 Unibet EuroHockey Championships, which they won on home soil.
The other big contenders include defending champions the Netherlands, who boast a World Cup win rate of 78% and are the world’s number one ranked team. Argentina, the team with second best record at World Cups, also pose a strong threat; as do other strong hockey nations such as Germany, New Zealand, Australia, USA and China.
It’s also a brilliant day out for the whole family, with activities for all ages in Fan Central, the event’s spectator village. Enjoy a big screen viewing area, mini-hockey games for kids and a variety of other attractions. It’s a must-visit for anyone heading to the event, and is also open to the public so come along!
What to expect from international hockey
International hockey is an 11-a-side game played over four 15-minute quarters. The use of rolling substitutes and the self-pass rule means the pace of the game is phenomenally quick, end-to-end and dynamic, as well as highly skilful. It is not uncommon for teams to make at least 60 substitutions a game!
